Ingvar - This one is my favourite, he makes Defenders disgustingly tanky. She starts with Tactics, which help our riders charge at the enemy right away(of course it's not always a good thing to do). Heroes: We've got a few options here, I feel like all of them are viable - just pick whoever you like the most.Įbba - Bear Riders are a crucial unit at all stages of the game, and making them stronger will make them do their job better. The key is to play early game right - if you don't fall behind to much, you will be extremely strong in the later phases. Fortress playstyle is totally different to other factions - you win fights by not dying rather than directly killing enemies. If you need a more in-depth guide, DM me and I'll tell you more.įortress, along with Inferno, is a very hard faction to master, so I'd only recommend picking it up it once you have some experience with the game. Now, I'll try to give you some general tips about Fortress. Reminder: stepping into a mine with your own stack won't damage it. One mine doesn't deal much damage, but if you place them right you can make your opponent step into 3 or more mines before reaching your army. Be careful though, do not place the crystal right next to a shooter - the crystal acts as an "enemy", and so you won't be able to shoot.įire Trap. Nothing exceptional to say here, it can be used as an additional stack to block narrow paths or shooters. ![]() I will share two little tactics with you that should make early stages easier. As I've said before, it requires a lot of practice so you might struggle a bit in the early game when going for that school of magic. I would say the top 3 are(in this order in parenthesis I put skills and/or spells that should be focused on): Fortress(with the Runic Armour skill that is quite powerful), Academy(Arcane Crystal, Blade Barrier, Phantom Forces, Conjure Phoenix) and Necropolis(Raise Dead with Master of Life ). Which fraction is the best to pick summoning magic? I don't know what town you mostly play but I can give you a hand with the tactics of beating heroic AI if you'd like. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. What I would personally suggest too is playing hero with low-level creature specializations those heroes can turn your stacks into deadly enemies later into the game, and because of that you don't necessarily have to rush for level 7 creatures early on. Prioritize skills like Attack->Battle Frenzy, War Machines->Ballista, Destructive Magic->Master of Ice/Storms(depends on what spells you get), Dark Magic->Master of Pain(if you happen to find Decay). ![]() Take them (choose XP) with your main hero until you're level 6/7/8, from which point you can start taking gold again. You should recruit 1-2 bonus heroes to gather all the resources and flag dwellings, but keep all the chests. To give you a tip, 20k gold at the start is more than enough. To give you an insight, the differences between normal and hard are (for AI): equal starting resources (compared to human), much better fight tactics, 1 building every day, 1 bonus hero per town besides that, 12% more neutral stacks count at the start of the game and 1% bonus growth of neutral stacks per week.Īs you can see the differences are quite meaningful, and that is where the big armies come from - AI plays much smarter, its losses are minimized and new building every day means more overall creatures to be recruited. Maybe you should keep playing on normal, but increase the other difficulty? Please note that the difficulty you choose while setting up a game is not the same as "neutral monster difficulty" when creating a map. ![]() To answer your question, in all HoMM games (on higher difficulties) AI gets different kinds of "boosts" to make it comparable to a human player.
